Savannah River Augusta GA

Postby DonC » Tue Mar 01, 2016 10:18 am

My wife and I are visiting my daughter, her husband and 2 grandchildren from TN. I fish bass with smallmouth as my favorite. I have fished Clarks Hill but have found it difficult to pattern well. My son-in-law has a 20 foot fiberglass bass boat.
It would be fine to catch some yellow perch also.

I have suggested to my son-in-law that we put in at Hammond's Ferry and fish up to the rapids.
Is it safe for a fiberglass bass boat to motor carefully in that stretch of river and up to base of the rapids.
I fish primarily tender tubes and 3 inch power grubs. I can drop shot if useful.

How is the fishing there?
Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks for any thoughts,
Don

Can't help you Don, but there are those here who do the know that part of the river fairly well. Only problem is that the boards been down for some time, recently came back up and most still don't know it.

One guy who should be able to help is Blackwater. Might try sending him a PM and he'll probably get an e-msg alerting him to check here to see the message. Good luck, Jim

What Croaker said plus there is a good river for your boat from Stevens Creek Dam up Clrak Hill Dam. Public access at 28 hwy SC side, Betty;s Branch GA side above Hwy 28, and behind Clark Hill Dam. No smallie I know of but excellent for Jack (chain pickerel) good for largies, rock fish (stripers) hybrids and pan fish. Really big shell crackers around the mouth of Stevens Creek.

A couple of years ago 4 of us launched our kayaks in Augusta and floated about 5 miles downstream and caught several nice smallmouth bass along with several Bartram bass and LM.
